Dale was still in the field late June when the C Co Hawaii R&R allocation came up. It was supposed to be mine as I had done my time, was at the top of the list. Dale asked me if he could have it; he`d already planned to meet the love of his life there, get married on the beach at sunset...what could I say but OK? Told Bev we`d have to change it to late July. Back comes Dale; he`d just reenlisted, got another R&R; He immediately put in for the July slot too, tells me it`s because they were having so much fun, were so carried way by the beauty of Hawaii, they forgot to get married in June, now plan to fix that in July. I went ballistic and DMB did the right thing probably for the first time--I got the R&R. In DC I asked him if they ever did finalize it and he thought a bit, smiled and said no...they kind of drifted apart when he got home from VN.
