I know that some in 3rd Platoon have a reputation of maybe not being the best map readers, but I’ve read topo’s since I was a little kid backpacking in the Sierras. I see it as being Hill 187. I’m looking at my copy of map sheet 6639 I, and the way I see it is the contour line stops above and below the 1 in 187. Also, it you count the contour lines, (20 meters per line), that hill is at least 120 meters high just from the lines on the east side of the hill. If it was only 87 meters high that would make it 600’ lower than Hill 270, which some say was the site of May 21. I’ve always believed that is wrong, as I’m sure after we went down off the hill of May 18 & 19, we didn’t go up 300’, let alone 600’. I’m going to sit down with the maps and the locations from the After Action Report and try to plot where we were and when we were there. I’m know I’m sorta anal about this, but the hill of the 18th is in the top 5 of places I want to go before I kick off. Damn…..it must be May.
