It is with heavy heart I announce the passing of Delta Company, 1/501st`s beloved medic, Doc Winka. Doc passed on today, 1/20/06 at 12:18PM at his home near St. Louis, MO. Doc was severly wounded just six feet from me on May 21st at the Lamar Plains operation. I helped load him on the medivac and said a prayer for him then as his wounds were extremely life threatening. I found him 2 years ago and we spoke almost every week since. He had severe heart complications and was sent home from a hospital to die exactly 8 months ago. Naturally, he endured longer than expected. Now, 36 years later I repeat that prayer for Doc. Condolences and words of support can be sent to his wife, Marilyn, at marchfrst@aol.com.
